Shiyong village falls under Wakching block (42 Assembly Constituency) in Mon district of Nagaland, India. It is 32km from Mon town, which is the district headquaters. Shiyong can be reached via Naginimora (a border town with Assam). It has 415 houses with two English medium schools, one government and one private (run by Sayeang Tea Estate). It has mobile phone connections, electricity, running water and can be reached by public transport and private taxis. The main occupation is agriculture and rice is the primary crop which is grown using the slash and burn method, also known as Jhum cultivation. Tea cultivation has been introduced as a cash crop 15 years ago. Tea cultivation has improved the standard of living within the village providing much needed income. The village has its own Tea Planters Association which provides support and guidance to help the farmers. In addition the village have orange orchards and other cash crops that are sold in the local market.
